Fausto Masnada is the first Soudal Quick-Step rider home on a day with over 2500 meters of climbing.

The Tour of Hungary continued Friday with a 179.9km stage from Kaposvar to Pecs. Comprising six classified ascents, including the “wall” the riders had to face in the last kilometers, the day ended up changing the owner of the yellow jersey, which at the start of the stage was sitting on Fabio Jakobsen’s shoulders, after his sensational victory in Keszthely.

Averahing 8.6% over just 2.3 kilometers, the Allatkert hill played a decisive role in the outcome, its steep gradients pouring led into many riders’ legs. March Hirschi (UAE Team Emirates) took a solo victory, which moved him at the top of the leaderboard, while Fausto Masnada concluded as the best placed Soudal Quick-Step rider.

Saturday brings another opportunity for the climbers to make the difference, in Dobogoko, where five classified ascents and another uphill finish awaits.
