The Dutchman signed off the squad’s 65th podium of the season.
Fabio Jakobsen sprinted to his 12th top three finish in a one-day race at the Elfstedenronde, his last appearance before the Belgium Tour, where he will lead Soudal Quick-Step. What made this result impressive was that during Sunday’s race the European Champion went down in a crash that involved several riders, including teammate Yves Lampaert, but could continue and return to the bunch.
Once he made it back, our team again took the front of the peloton, pulling to bring back the breakaway, which was caught on the final lap in Brugge. A frantic mass gallop ensued, and Fabio took third behind Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) for his second consecutive podium at the Belgian race.
“The boys did a good race today and worked hard together with other teams so we could have a sprint at the end of the day. Fabio missed a bit of kick to finish it off, but he will now have two days to recover before he starts the Belgium Tour, where he will look to be again involved in the sprint”, said sports director Klaas Lodewyck.
