Runner-up for the 32-year-old from Alzano Lombardo after a strong race.

Mattia Cattaneo confirmed his prowess against the clock, finishing on the podium at the National Championships for the third year in a row. It was his first top three of the season, and it came after a solid ride in Sarche, where the race was held this Thursday.

The route was just 25.7 kilometers in length, but featured a long climb in the first part which really took its toll on the riders, before the completely flat final kilometers, more suited to the real specialists. Soudal Quick-Step’s Italian was capable of tapping out a strong tempo on noth terrains as he rode his way to silver, only Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) improving the time he set at the finish, 33:12.

“I came at the start today with high hopes, especially as I had worked a lot in this discipline following my Giro abandon. The parcours suited me and I can easily say that I rode one of the best time trials of my career, but when you face a two-time World Champion is really difficult. I wanted to win, but in these conditions, I can be happy with my result and especially with the ride I had”, Mattia – bronze in 2021 and silver in 2022 – explained after the race.
