The Cumbrian produced a flying ride Sunday afternoon.

James Knox delivered Soudal Quick-Step’s fifth medal at this year’s Nationals, capping off a great week for Soudal Quick-Step, who won three races and took two other runner-up spots with five riders in as many different countries.

The 27-year-old was part of the key selection that was made in the closing stages of the 189km race held in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, putting in a fantastic ride on the tough circuit that took its toll on many of the riders, leading to some huge gaps. The first of these to make a move was Fred Wright (Bahrain Victorious), who opened a gap which he carried to the finish, but James showed a lot of grit to take second after a great day of racing.

“I am very happy with my result. It was a super hard circuit, tough from the beginning, and pretty attritional, I could say. I had to stay there, to remain patient, to find the right moment when it came to crunch time, and at the end of the day I am satisfied with this podium, it augurs well for the second part of the season”, Knox said after his second top three of the season.
