Siebe Deweirdt and Jan Kino scored more wins for our feeder squad.
Victorious last month at the Kemmel Koerse, Siebe Deweirdt tasted success again, this time at the 147.5km Grote Prijs Stad Torhout, a one-day race held Wednesday afternoon, in West Flanders. The event was a lively one, with countless attacks, and one of these managed to stay clear until the finish. From that large group, one guy attacked only to be soon joined by Siebe, who proved to be the fastest and took a clear win. His Soudal Quick-Step Devo teammate Andrea Raccagni arrived home in third place, rounding out the podium.
“We came to the start with a strong and balanced team, and we were the first to go on the offensive, so that we don’t have to close gaps. With around 70 kilometers to go, I was in a strong group together with Jordi Warlop and Andrea, and I was supposed to do the lead-out for the latter. But then, when one rider attacked, I was the only one who could follow him. On the final lap, he tried one more time, I closed the gap again, and prevailed in the sprint. With two guys in the top three, I think we can be proud of what we achieved today”, Siebe explained.
The second victory of the day came in Vresse sur Semois, a hard climbing race held also in Belgium, this time in the Ardennes. Fifth in July’s Course de Côte Herbeumont, won at that time by his teammate William Junior Lecerf, Jan Kino rode to his first win of the season, after an impressive 10km solo which saw him hold off a strong chasing group.
It was Soudal Quick-Step Devo Team’s 22nd victory since the start of the year, as Kino became the 11th different rider to win in the squad’s colors.
