The Belgian needs to get over a flat stage in order to seal the overall victory at the Deutschland Tour.
Our second of the three stage races we are competing in this week, the Deutschland Tour continued with an undulating stage to Essen, which culminated with an uphill finish. Soudal Quick-Step was again very active, keen on protecting Ilan Van Wilder’s red jersey, and at the same time, making sure the attackers would be back so that prologue winner Ethan Vernon could get a chance there.
The Brit, who turned 23 on Saturday, produced an impressive sprint, despite the uphill drag not being really tailored to him, and got fifth place, as Madis Mihkels (Intermarche-Wanty-Circus) nabbed the victory. The result helped Ethan consolidate his position as leader of the points classification.
