Our champion, Tony Martin, is working on his training prior to the 2012 London Olympics. Tony talked with us about his expectations, fitness, and of course, the Tour de France.

How are you?

I'm pretty satisfied about my training in the last days. I'm having a good preparation for the Olympics. The weather was always nice. I didn't lose days of training. Considering everything, I think we made the right decision to leave the Tour.

How is your fracture?

More or less the same situation as in the Tour de France. As everybody knows, it is difficult to heal a fracture like this. But I train using the brace and I try to use it even off of the bike — in the normal life, for example, when I have to drive my car.

How is your training schedule?

I trained a lot with my TT bike. Here near my home I can find really good parcours that are also far from the traffic. As you can understand, I don't, and I can't, take risk of crashing again before the Olympics.

Did you see the Tour?

Yes I watched a few stages. I have to congratulate my teammates. They tried basically every day to enter in the breakaway. Even Peter did a great TT, even if he was sick. Then I have to say that Wiggins deserves the victory. He was the big favorite and he never showed weakness. I know him pretty well. We rode together on the same team also, in the Giro d'italia of 2008. I think he's a great winner and a great sport for cycling in general. he is a real professional guy and his team, as our team, has a modern approach to cycling.

Back to the Olympics,....You will participate in both road and TT race in London.

Yes, on the road I think we can have a good chance with Greipel to get at least a medal. I will be happy to help him reach this goal. The road will be also a good preparation prior to the TT. I have only to be careful and stay away from trouble — meaning the crashes.

When do you leave for London?

On Wednesday evening.

Good Luck
Thanks, I will need it!
