The 201.5km Stage 1 of Tour of Utah, from Ogden to Ogden, featured multiple breakaways and several late race attacks. However, the peloton remained strung out in pursuit of every rider who went off the front, and the bunch sprint finish for a 4 KOM, 3 sprint stage could not be avoided.

Rory Sutherland (UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling) won by several bike lengths with a powerful effort in the final meters. Damiano Caruso (Liquigas-Cannondale) was 2nd, and Brent Bookwalter (BMC Racing Team) was 3rd.

Levi Leipheimer was the top finisher for OPQS, in 24th place.
