A breakaway of five riders lasted until about 10km to go at the 137.8km Stage 3 of Tour of Utah, from Ogden to University of Utah, on Thursday.
Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team did not make the break, and chose to let other teams do the chasing at the front with a limited number of riders at the starting line. Levi Leipheimer was spotted near the front of the peloton for much of the race, but was protected by his teammates as he was highest in the GC.
Michael Matthews (Rabobank) won the eventual field sprint up the right side, with Michael Schär and Brent Bookwalter — both of BMC Racing Team — taking 2nd and 3rd.
OPQS rider Matthew Brammeier abandoned early on in the race, along with Jonas Ahlstrand of Argos-Shimano.
OPQS looks next to a 216.1km Stage 4 on Friday, from Xango HQ to Salt Lake City.
