The 27-year-old Belgian was our first rider home.
Jordi Warlop finished eighth again at the Quatre Jours de Dunkerque, where the riders enjoyed an uneventful day as they travelled from Wimereux to Abbeville. It was the longest stage of the week, one featuring some small climbs, and despite everyone agreeing it should come down to a bunch sprint, that didn’t stop five men from forming a break and putting eight minutes into the peloton.
Unfazed by this gap, the sprinters’ teams took the front of the bunch and steadily clawed back time, reeling in the escapees with plenty of kilometers left to the finish. Unlike Tuesday, when the rain played a role in the finale, things were less hectic this time in the bunch sprint won by Sam Bennett (Decathlon AG2R).
Following his result, Walrop cemented his place in the general classification top ten, where he lies just six seconds from the podium going into Friday’s stage 3, which should see again the sprinters in the spotlight.
