Sixth top-three finish in the last eight years for Soudal Quick-Step’s rider.

Josef Cerny finished runner-up at the National ITT Championships, which this year took place in Jevicko, a small town in the Pardubice region. The 46.5km course was the longest aince 2016 and ended up creating some important gaps between the riders who were at the start.

Top ten this season in two individual time trials – those of Tirreno-Adriatico and the Belgium Tour – Josef Cerny was among the last men to roll down the ramp, and the experienced Czech produced a strong display on the undulating roads around Jevicko.

The 31-year-old averaged 50.78km/h for a time of 54:56, as Mathias Vacek (Lidl-Trek) took the win, enough to be on the podium and take silver. It was Cerny’s sixth medal at the ITT Nationals, and one which makes him one of the most decorated Czech riders in the discipline.
