This Sunday is the Ronde van Vlaanderen – a day unmatched in the sporting calendar of Belgium.
Amongst the narrow farming roads and cobbled bergs that the riders will tackle in the race, lie legends and myths from the historic editions of this classic, that dates back over one hundred years.
The man that perhaps personifies Flanders most amongst our current roster of riders is Yves Lampaert. Growing up near Izegem, Yves went to watch De Ronde every year with his family, and it is one of the races that inspired him to become a professional rider.
In this episode of the Wolfpack Howls, Yves romanticises about those days and what the race means to the Flemish, the highs and lows of his eleven seasons with Soudal Quick-Step and what we can expect from this Sunday’s race.
