Omega Pharma Quick-Step Cycling Team rider, and World Time Trial Champion, Tony Martin was 11th in the 39.4 Stage 11 La Vuelta a Espana ITT on Thursday. The course included a 10km, 4.4% average gradiant category 3 climb.

Martin was setting a good pace at the 13.5km intermediate checkpoint, just a few seconds back from Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank - Tinkoff Bank)and other GC contenders. However, Martin appeared to lose some time once the climb began and for the remainder of the parcour.

Martin finished 1'39" back from stage winner Fredrik Kessiakoff (Astana Pro Team). Contador was 2nd, 17" back, and Chris Froome (Sky ProCycling) 3rd, 39" back.
