After the most successful season of his cycling career Tony Martin has been named German rider of the season 2011. The world time trial champion beat the stunt cycling world champion David Schnabel, while sprinter Marcel Kittel claimed third place.
“It is a nice reward and a special recognition for my prestations. I`m honoured to receive this prize and it will be an extra motivation for the 2012 season”, said the German rider of 2011.
Besides the world time trial championships Tony Martin won stage 5 and the overall classification in the Volta oa Algarve, stage 6 and the overall classification in Paris-Nice, stage 3 Dauphiné-Libéré, stage 20 Tour de France, stage 10 Vuelta a España, stage 1 and the overall classification in the Tour of Beijing and the Chrono des Herbiers.
