Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team will try to continue its streak of outstanding performances in Tour de San Luis, while also keeping Levi Leipheimer in the general classification (GC) lead. Stage 5, starting at 12:32 p.m. ART, is a 160.6 km race from La Toma to Merlo (Mirador del Sol). This stage saves the only climbs for the very end. A category 3 climb at the 153.3 km mark, and the final climb, which is where the finish line is located, is a category 1 at the 160.6 mark. There are also sprint points at the 57.5 km mark, and the 141.k km mark.
Leipheimer currently holds a 53 second lead in the GC after winning the time trial in Stage 4 yesterday. He took over the leader's jersey from Alberto Contador. Leipheimer trailed Contador by four seconds going into the time trial, but beat Contador by a minute.
Sylvain Chavanel could also contest the leader's jersey. He sits in 5th place, a minute and 20 seconds back from Leipheimer. If a break sticks and Chavanel is in it, he could very well be in the fight for the GC.
Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team has won three out of four stages at Tour de San Luis. Leipheimer placed second in the one stage the team did not win, but put himself into prime position for the GC lead.
