Not only does Tom Boonen stand out on his bike, he’s also a star in the effort to support people in need. In fact, last week Tornado Tom paid a visit to the Pellenberg hospital as part of an event organised by Move to Improve, an association that helps children with motor skills challenges, for which he is a spokesman.

Tom visited the children at the hospital and got a first hand look at the machines which were purchased thanks to the charitable initiative he organises every year with Wilfried Peeters at Mol, called "Boonen & Friends cyclocross ". Tom also took a symbolic ride in the hospital square with some of the kids, who were able to fulfil their dream of riding with the champion thanks to unique bicycles built especially for them.

“It was a great moment,” explained Boonen. “ I’m very involved with this association and I think it’s important that personalities like those of us in the world of sports can reach out and help those in need. It was also wonderful to see the machines that were purchased with the help of everyone who participates in my charitable cross event. So mark the date! We will be at Mol again on December 1st for Cross Boonen & Friends. Our goal is to further improve on the funds we raised last year!”
