Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Zdenek Stybar won the Czech National Cyclo-Cross Championship on Saturday, in his hometown of Stribro, for the seventh time in his career!
He now holds the record for Czech titles along with Radomír Šimůnek, Sr., father of current rider Radomír Šimůnek, Junior.
"I hope next year to be able to beat him, but it is already nice to join a Czech legend like Radomír," Stybar said of his record tying victory. "My father was organizing the race. A lot of people of my hometown helped to organize this event. I'm happy to be a part of it. I was not really stressed, maybe a little bit. The track was looking quite easy but I knew it would be hard. I was planning to stay with the guys in the first part of the race and in the third lap I attacked. I was alone with a seven second gap. The lap after I increased the gap and stayed alone. It was nice! I'm happy that my shape is good. Now I can be full gas for the road races."
Stybar's victory is the second already for OPQS in 2013, after the great 6-Days of Rotterdam win by Iljo Keisse and Niki Terpstra. Congratulations Styby!
