Starting Tomorrow, Thursday, January 5th, 2012, the Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team will be at work in Benicassim (Spain). “It will be an important training camp for the team,” explains Trainer Tom Steels.
“Regarding January’s camp, we’re going to be focusing more on some specific tasks. The aim is to work on rhythm and speed so we’ll be ready in the first races of the season, starting with the Tour de San Luis in Argentina.”
The athletes flying to Australia from Amsterdam on January 5th, with Sport Director Rik Van Slycke will miss the training camp. Even Zdenek Stybar, who’ll be racing in the National cyclo-cross Championships on Sunday, will not participate in the training camp, nor will Levi Leipheimer. In agreement with the team, the American rider will train in California.
“We all agreed on this decision, so Levi won’t lose any training days as he works towards his season debut at the Tour de San Luis,” continues Tom Steels. “Even Niki Terpstra and Iljo Keisse won’t be there. Starting tomorrow, they will partecipate together in the Six Days of Rotterdam.”
