The fifth stage of Le Tour de Langkawi had a finish which was comparable to the Alpe d`Huez. Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Serge Pauwels held on in the front group for a long time and finished 17th.

The short, but hard stage over 110 kilometres finished in the Genting Highlands. Sports director Rik van Slycke compared the climb with the famous Alpe d`Huez. The riders suffered on the slopes of the final climb of hors category (1.679 metres). The riders reached the summit one by one, really exhausted from the climb. Julian David Arredondo was the first to reach the summit. With a late attack he took the stage win in front of Pieter Weening (Orica - GreenEDGE) and Nino Victor Corredor (RTS Racing Team). Serge Pauwels was in the first group for on long time on the final climb. Eventually he finished 17th, 3.33 behind Arredondo. Carlos Verona also put down a nice performance. The young Spaniard finished 25th.
