Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Pieter Serry will fly home to Belgium tomorrow as a precautionary measure, after crashing in Tour de Langkawi Stage 5. Serry, despite performing well and riding in a breakaway in Stage 6, decided together with the team that it is better to allow the wound on his elbow to heal, rather than risk infection, by continuing to race.
Serry's reaction:
"I am sad to leave my teammates as my condition is good and I am pedaling really well," Serry said. "But that is why we decided to not take risks with a wound and let myself take time to heal from the injury in a controlled environment. I will start immediately training when I am home, and will be ready for the upcoming races."
