Biography of Geert
Winner of the 62nd edition of Gent-Wevelgem back in 2000 and a consistent rider in the hard but alluring one-day races, Geert Van Bondt retired at the end of the 2004 season, but after a only a few years made his return, as sports director this time, working both on the World Tour and with youth teams before getting behind the wheel with Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl; here he came across from Klein Constantia, where for one year he nurtured the talents, among others, of Rémi Cavagna and Enric Mas, who today are proud members of the Wolfpack.
“It was a dream come true to be part of this amazing team and I’m happy to be here, together with so many talented riders and a truly fantastic staff. I like working with young riders, since it keeps me young. I always like to learn and grow in order to become better in what I do. It’s hard sometimes to be away from my family, but overall it’s really great to travel around the world with the Wolfpack.”
To relieve stress, Geert likes to run early in the morning – even during races – and still dreams of getting better in surfing and taming the waves like the pros on the WSL. In the evenings, when at the race or traveling, Netflix is his best companion, “Narcos”, “Casa del Papel”, “Peaky Blinders” and “Breaking Bad” being just some of the shows he likes to binge.
