Stijn Vandenbergh

Who could forget Stijn’s memorable victory on the final stage of the 2016 Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, when he attacked from the peloton on a flat day for the sprinters and managed to hold off the chasers, despite riding with a plastic bag stuck in his rear wheel in the final six kilometers of the day?

 

The Belgian powerhouse raced in the team’s jersey for five years, and after bringing to a conclusion his career in 2020, he began working at the Oudenaarde cycling school. After following a 12-week massage course in Gent, he returned to the team as a freelance soigneur before taking up on the role full-time.

 

“As a rider I also had a helping function and as a soigneur it’s the same, so this role suits me. Next to the massage, there are a lot of other tasks that I take care of together with my amazing colleagues, so I’m happy to do that whenever needed. We are all working towards the same goal together, and you can feel that every day.”
